Behind the Eight Ball

Behind The Eight Ball

Work by Kristen Walsh and Dani Levine

Opening reception Friday, October 2nd, 7-10pm

Behind the Eight Ball alludes to experiences that the object can carry: as a mark made by the event of making, repeated and reinterpreted; the object itself repeated until it is redefined, and ultimately, the object’s existence as an artifact of gesture. Clarity hinges on each new interpretation of the object—each work activates another facet of the translation and works towards revealing a new whole. Ideally, each separate work functions as an image machine; foregrounding a common object, but interrupting familiarity with a point of resistance; a knot, a distortion of surface or form.

Behind the Eight Ball exists in conversational grey area, offering contradictions between object and image, luck and loss, event and artifact.
